Wind turbine LVIA
Landscape and visual assessment for single turbines and wind farms, with ZTVs, photography and photomontages
Why landscape matters for wind
Wind turbines are tall, they move, and they can be seen from a long way off. That makes landscape and visual effects central to most wind applications, from a single farm turbine to a multi-turbine scheme.
We prepare Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) and Landscape and Visual Appraisals for wind development, following GLVIA3 and the relevant guidance on visual representation.
What we look at
How the turbines relate to the scale and character of the landscape
Views from settlements, homes, public rights of way, roads and visitor destinations
Effects on National Parks, National Landscapes and other valued landscapes, including views out from them
Cumulative effects with existing and consented turbines
Residential visual amenity, where homes are close to the proposed turbines
What’s included
ZTV mapping to show where the turbines could be seen from, including cumulative ZTVs
Viewpoint selection and agreement with the council
Viewpoint photography, wirelines and photomontages, produced in-house
The LVIA or LVA report, or an ES chapter
Advice on layout and turbine height to reduce effects where possible
Why Terra Loci
We’ve worked on wind schemes in a range of landscapes, including sites near designated areas. We give clear, early advice on where the landscape risks lie, so they can be dealt with before the application goes in rather than after.
Planning a wind scheme?
Send us a site plan, turbine locations and heights, and we’ll come back with a fee proposal within two working days.
