Townscape and Visual Impact Assessment
Assessing how development fits into towns and cities, and how it changes the views people value.
What it is and when you need it
Townscape assessment applies the principles of LVIA to the built environment. It considers the character of streets, spaces and buildings, and how a proposed scheme would affect views from homes, public spaces and key routes.
It is often needed for taller buildings, large urban schemes, infrastructure in built-up areas and developments near conservation areas, either as a standalone report or as a chapter in an Environmental Statement.
